Deadpan humor engages full-blooded terror in Yorgos Lanthimos’ unsettling production about a surgeon’s association with a youthful fellow.

r. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a distinguished cardiovascular surgeon presiding over a stainless household with his ophthalmologist wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) and their two worthy children, 12-year-old Bob (Sunny Suljic) and 14-year-old Kim (Raffey Cassidy). Lurking at the edges of his affluent suburban life is Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless teen who Steven has covertly taken under his wing. As Martin begins ingratiating himself into the family’s life in ever-more unsettling samples, the entire range of his intent becomes menacingly transparent when he defies Steven with a long-forgotten violation that will smash the Murphy family’s handcrafted happiness.
